A rising musical talent, 22-year-old singer DELAROSA, has been killed in what authorities are describing as an “ambush-style” shooting.
The shooting took place before 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Bryant Street east of Tampa Avenue in the Northridge neighbourhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
LAPD officials issued a statement on Monday that witnesses saw two males run up to a parked vehicle and fire multiple rounds, hitting three people sitting in the car.
One of the victims was a woman who was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, while the other two victims were admitted in critical condition this weekend.
The woman was later identified as 22-year-old Maria De La Rosa, while the other two victims are yet to be named.
Law enforcement agencies are treating the case as a homicide, and the motive of the fatal shooting is still under investigation.
Arrests and New Developments in the Case
Just days after the shooting, prosecutors filed major charges connected to Delarosa’s death:
- The suspects have been identified as Francisco Otilio Gaytan (27), Benny LiconGomez (27), and Eduardo Lopez (21).
- Gaytan and LiconGomez have been arrested, with bail set at $2.18 million and $2.28 million respectively.
- The third suspect, Lopez, is still at large, and an arrest warrant has been issued.
- All three have been charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted second-degree robbery.
- Prosecutors indicated that, if convicted, the suspects could face life in prison without parole.
Investigators have not confirmed whether the attack was solely robbery-motivated or if there were deeper factors involved.

Music fans and fellow artists, including Mexican-American record executive Jimmy Humilde, are already sharing tributes and expressing deep sorrow. Social-media posts reflect shock, with many calling for justice for Delarosa and her family.
Do you think enough is being done to protect rising artists from violence, or is this another wake-up call for the industry?
